According to the President of ANEL, Paulo César Dantas Fernandes, “EXPOLAV was a very productive marketing action. We obtained information indicating good product sales rates by the exhibitors, who seemed to be satisfied with the event. Without a doubt, it was an opportunity to demonstrate the optimism existing within the entire production chain linked to our sector”.

Formed by the events ITMEX AMERICAS (10th International Textile Machinery Fair), EXPOLAV (International Laundry and Dry-Cleaning Machinery, Equipment, Products and Services Trade Fair), FEIMACO (5th International Garment Industry Machinery and Components Trade Fair) and NT&TT SHOW (3rd International Nonwovens & Technical Textiles Trade Fair), the WEEK was promoted by Reed Exhibitions Alcantara Machado – the largest organizer of business trade fairs and events in Latin America.

Check out the opinions of some exhibitors that have participated in the International Textile Technology Week:

ARENA BUREAUX

"In my opinion, the TEXTILE WEEK was a huge surprise. I was very pleased to see the sectors’ main companies here. The German block with a very modern layout was also a surprise - a high investment for 4 days of fair in Brazil. The German presence was fantastic. Among all the international visitors I have welcomed, the South Americans stood out. I received Argentineans, Chileans, Paraguayans, Uruguayans and Peruvians. Besides, I’d like to register the event’s daring move and success during such a critical moment in the world”, said Norberto Arena, President of ARENA BUREAUX, exhibitor at the TEXTILE WEEK.

BARDHAL
Marcelo Escarabajal, the new business coordinator of Bardahl, exhibitor at ITMEX, said, that ”the participation in the fair enhanced the visibility of the Kelube line, synthetic lubricants bringing significant benefits to the customers and coming up to complement Bardahl´s textile line. These new contacts with textile machinery manufacturers, distributors and representatives, not only from Brazil but also from South America and Asia, open new business opportunities for Bardahl”.

COMACE

For Gisele Maria Gonçalves, sales manager of COMACE, exhibitor at FEIMACO, “the fair had a great visitation. Among the main novelties that we have brought to the event, we introduced the bra strap sticking machines, ergonomic chairs for tailors that meet the NR-17 standards, cord machines for Bermuda shorts and pants and furniture for home sewing machines. As launch, we brought a yarn braid machine, that transforms the yarn in badge cords.”

MACÉA

José Paulo Macéa, Director of MACÉA, exhibitor at ITMEX, said: “the event was extremely positive. We received highly qualified visitation. The sector’s whole industrial park was there, thus, we could work out the institutional approach of our company, which was our main goal. Among the products shown: ceramic guides, textile accessories, enzymatic oil appliers and polycrystalline sapphire, our launch at the fair.”

MALTEC

“We made a lot of contacts during the fair. The visitors were from the segment and willing to get to know the products and to do business. Our perspective is to close business deals in the range of R$ 500 thousand, based on the contacts we made at the fair”, says Cristiano Felipe Lamb, Commercial Manager of MALTEC, exhibitor at EXPOLAV.

MARBOR

To Valdir Medina, Sales Manager of MARBOR, exhibitor at FEIMACO, “the fair still is the best cost-benefit for exhibiting our product to the marketing area. The visitation rate surprised us; we received many customers looking for our product. We achieved sales and not just customer prospecting. To us, the fair will be a milestone in 2009. We are confident, that it will bring a good outcome. In this edition, we introduced two launches: a compact laser cutting machine for bridge system application featuring more productivity; and another machine, a double sequin applier, which applies different sizes of that material on the same piece and sequentially.”

METAL WORKING

“I think the Textile Week’s actual edition had brought visitors that were truly interested in textile machinery. It’s a qualified public, more specialized and technical. Therefore, we could offer a differentiated treatment, by clearing up all the technical questions about the products. The launch brought by Metal Working to ITMEX was the Riviera ECO, a French technology machine that we produce in Brazil. Used to dye fabric, it demands 54% less water than conventional machines. Using less water means to use less chemical products, thus, it’s environmentally correct, since it reduces the disposal of chemical residues in the environment. With this launch, Brazil enters the select group of countries holding such technology”, assures Melquizedeque Nunes Oliveira Filho, Commercial Director of METAL WORKING, exhibitor at ITMEX.

OBER

To Laerte Guião Maroni, Market Development Manager of OBER, exhibitor at NT&TT SHOW  “we had excellent opportunities to localize and prospect customers. The trade fair showed positive aspects, the lectures attracted a qualified public and the visitation exceeded our first expectations. We received customers from Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. Having participated in this trade fair, especially in this moment, was very good and also an opportunity to work on the company’s institutional approach. Besides, our sales start, continue and end after the event. It’s worth highlighting, that the Anhembi Park Exhibition Hall has improved with its new floor and roof. Within our products, we introduced industrial application lines, such as the automotive and medical lines, and the Wipers line, directed to disposable cleaning technical fabrics; and the enlargement of the Obertech line catalogue.”

RENOPEL
“The participation of RENOPEL, Portuguese exhibitor at EXPOLAV, was an excellent way of disclosing and communicating the products we wanted to introduce, allowing us, very closely, to show to the sector’s new investors and professionals, what is lately and professionally done all over Europe when it comes to carpet washing and fur cloth cleaning”, says Francisco Noevo, the company’s Manager.

SANATEX

“We could welcome a great number of visitors at our booth. Business-deciding people. Since we had many represented companies at the event, generally speaking, the fair was very good, once we received many quotation requests for machines and information about the products. If we close 10% to 15% of deals coming from those quotations, we will be pleased. Besides, we prospected new customers that have decision power and are ready to make the business real. The highlight launch was the THEN machine with German technology for fabric dyeing. The benefit of this product is the economy of water during the dyeing process. While other machines use 1 KG fabric for 6 liters of water, this one uses 1 KG fabric for 3,5 liters of water. Therefore, it is environmentally correct, since it consumes 30% to 40% less water, energy, salt and chemical products than the conventional machines. Moreover, it’s ideal for dyeing knitwear and plain fabrics”, said Gioacchino Di Santo, Owner and Partner of SANATEX, exhibitor at ITMEX.

SHICK BIN

According to Valdir Shick, Director of SCHICK BIN, exhibitor at ITMEX, “the TEXTILE WEEK achieved a performance that exceeded my expectations. The visitors were in a good mood, highly qualified and willing to do business. Our launching highlights: cage and sinker lines, mainly the double-thick sinker for circular looms”.

SUN SPECIAL

João Nogueira Ribeiro, President of SUN SPECIAL, exhibitor at FEIMACO, assured:  “the fair has surprised us, exceeding our expectations in terms of the public’s qualification. We had first expected to achieve 15% - 20% business growth, but now, at the end of the event, we believed to have reached 20%. We brought about 10 launchings, in our embroidery machine line, and electronic lock stitch machine.

VDMA

According to Boris Abadijjeff, Export Marketing of VDMA, a German association present at ITMEX, “the fair went by in a really good way. Our exhibitors expressed positive opinions, telling us that the visitors’ rate during the second and third days was great. In terms of business, we have to wait about 2 to 3 months to analyze the event, but we can already assure that it was considered satisfactory. The main goal in our partnership’s participation was to follow and to give advice, through VDMA and the German booth, to small and medium companies, supporting their international activities.

TEXIMA
Walter Gibello, Director of TEXIMA, exhibitor at ITMEX, analyzes that “the event surprised us positively, with the quantity and quality of its visitors. Our launch, the RAMA R4 was very well received by the visitors and has opened opportunities for closing good business along the year.

TOYOTA

To Markus Lichtenstein, Director of TOYOTA, exhibiting company at ITMEX, “the fair proved to be above the expectations. Several visitors showed up, even more than we expected. It is a social fair in order to work our company’s institutional approach. As a launch, we brought a card ring, which produces a more compact yarn, straight and regular, adding more value to the customer. It’s ideal for finer and higher quality mesh wear.

Market Information
As the sixth largest world producer, the Brazilian textile and ready-to-wear apparel sectors represent 3,5% of the national GIP having achieved sales of about USD 43 billion in 2008, according to the AIB (Brazilian Association of Textile and Ready-to-Wear Apparel Industries). The national industry produced 1,6 million tons of cotton, an average of 1,416 million tons of plain fabrics (all fibers) and an average of 706 thousand tons of mesh fabric (all fiber). The clothing average was about 9,8 billion pieces, 4% more than in 2007. To achieve such figures, machinery, equipment and accessories are extremely important. This is the universe lodged at the TEXTILE WEEK 2009.

Data from ABRAMACO (Brazilian Association of Industry and Commerce for Industrial Machinery, Components, Accessories and Systems) indicate, that machinery imports have reached an amount of USD 247,249,822, that means, 46,12% more than in 2007, when they hit USD 169,207,748. From 2004 to 2008 machinery imports have totalized 289%, which shows the growth of the ready-to-wear apparel sector and consequently, more job generation. Among the most imported, we find the embroidery machines, overlock, interlock and lockstitch machines.

ANEL (Brazilian Laundry Business Association) informs that the medical laundry segment was the most outstanding one in 2008. One reason is the ongoing demand on always higher level laundry services provided by those institutions. Renowned hospitals end up deciding to outsource, thus stimulating the market to find new alternatives. This is the point of view of the Medical Director of ANEL, Ananias Magalhães, who owns a laundry in the Ceará State. He estimates a growth rate up to 20% has been achieved by the segment in the State’s capital where he has his activities.

According to the ABINT (Brazilian Association of Nonwovens and Technical Fabric Industries), the DH´s market (hygiene disposables, diapers, feminine pads, medical wear and moistened tissues) deserve to be highlighted among the others, since it represents 40% of everything produced and still being produced at strong rhythm.

In 2007, the apparent consumption of nonwovens and fabrics was of 160 thousand tons, being:

- 40% Hygiene Disposables (34% Hygiene – diapers and pads / 2% medical clothing / 4% moistened tissues)
- 60% durable and semi-durable goods (9% footwear / 6% civil construction e geotechnics / 3% filtration / 5% cleaning cloths – kitchen and industrial / 2,5% automotive / 34,5% others (agriculture, packaging material, ornaments, ready-to-wear apparel - collars, cuffs, shoulder pads-, carpets, etc.).
