INTERNATIONAL TEXTILE TECHNOLOGY WEEK: business opportunities

3/10/2009 | Communication Reed Exhibitions Alcantara Machado

With a turnover of US$ 43 billion in 2008, the textile and clothing industries depend on machinery, accessories and services to produce, export and sell clothing to Brazil and the world;

São Paulo, March 2009 – Beginning on the 10th, the INTERNATIONAL TEXTILE TECHNOLOGY WEEK, at the Exhibition Pavilion of Anhembi, in São Paulo, will bring together around 600 exhibitors from 20 countries, with the expectation of receiving approximately 28 thousand visitors.

Organised by Reed Exhibitions Alcantara Machado, the WEEK, which is formed by the events of ITMEX AMERICAS (10th International Textile Machinery Trade Fair), EXPOLAV (8th International Laundry and Dry-Cleaning Machinery, Equipment, Products and Services Trade Fair), FEIMACO (5th International Garment Industry Machinery and Components Trade Fair) and the NT&TT SHOW (3rd International Nonwovens & Technical Textiles Trade Fair), will present various innovations to visitors, as well as hold some lectures for the laundry, nonwovens and technical textiles sectors.

"The INTERNATIONAL TEXTILE TECHNOLOGY WEEK  will bring a range of offers on machinery, equipment and services, inviting businessmen from the textile and clothing sectors to get to know new products which could help them increase or modernise their companies, apart from showing them an opportunity for new business", observes Evaristo Nascimento, Director of Fairs for Reed Exhibitions Alcantara Machado.

The sixth largest producer of the world, the textile and clothing sectors turned over US$ 43 billion in  2008 (4% more than 2007) and invested US$ 1,5 billion, according to data from the ABIT (Brazilian Association for the Textile and Clothing Industries). The national industry produced 1, 6 million tons of cotton, an average of 1,416 million tons of flat woven fabrics (all the fibres) and an average of 706 thousand tons of nap (all the fibres). The average amount of clothing was 9, 8 billion pieces, 4% more than in 2007. To reach these numbers, machinery, equipment and accessories are of fundamental importance. And it is this universe that will be presented at the TEXTILE WEEK 2008.

At ITMEX AMERICAS, for example, the public can confirm the innovations in textile machinery, both national and international, equipment and industrial processes aimed at the textile industry. Among the principal sectors for which products and services will be presented, the highlights will be those of spinning, weaving, knitting, processing and finishing, laboratory equipment and software for the use of the textile industry, amongst others.

FEIMACO will present to the clothing industry the most recent innovations in industrial sewing machines, machines for cutting, embroidering and ironing, accessories, components, systems for cutting and sewing and CAD/CAM amongst others. Data from ABRAMACO (Brazilian Association of the Industries of Industrial Sewing, Components, Accessories and Systems) indicate that imports of machinery for clothing in 2008 reached the sum of US$ 247.249,822, or 46, 12% more than in 2007, when it reached US$ 169.207,748. From 2004 to 2008 imports of machinery totalled 289%, which signifies growth in clothing and consequently in the creation of employment. Among the most imported machines are embroiderers, overlocks, interlocks and coverstitch sewing machines.

"Apart from the Asian competition, our sector expands every year thanks to the reduction in production costs and of the import taxes on industrial sewing machines, and especially through the inexhaustible creative capacity of the Brazilian people. Even with this scenario temporarily unfavourable, the sector is more than prepared to receive visitors to the WEEK, especially at FEIMACO", says Giuseppe Tropi Somma, president of ABRAMACO. "At the Pavilion we will present the best assistance for the creation of direct and indirect jobs: our machines, components and accessories. They are the essential means to promote the clothing industry", he completes.

New technologies, products and services for domestic, industrial, medical and hotel laundries will be presented to the market at EXPOLAV. Data from ANEL (National Association for Laundry Businesses) points out that one of the laundry segments which stood out in 2008 was that of Hospitals. Among motives for this is the level of demand for laundering of material for these institutions, which is always growing. Renowned hospitals have opted for outsourcing, which has stimulated the market to find new alternatives. This is the vision of the director for hospitals of ANEL, Dr. Ananias Magalhães, owner of a laundry in Ceará. He estimates that in the capital of the state where he works, there has been an increase of up to 20% in the segment.

“We, of ANEL, together with associates from the whole country, possess an entrepreneur’s vision and continue to always seek growth and sustainable development. This is fact. Even in times of crisis”, he declares. “For the owners of laundries, it is only necessary to rationally control cash flow, but always being alert for the correct moment to make the necessary investments”, concludes Paulo César Dantas Fernandes, president of the association. According to him, EXPOLAV will be the moment to bring together the businessmen of Brazil and think of realistic strategies to maintain the laundry segment on a high.

In the area of nonwovens and technical textiles, the NT&TT SHOW will bring together manufacturers and representatives from the sectors of nonwovens, technical textiles, machinery and equipment, consumables, components, hygienic disposables (nappies, sanitary napkins, moistened tissues), transformers of nonwovens and technical textiles, machinery and equipment for transformation, consumables and components for transformation, among others. According to ABINT (Brazilian Association for the Nonwoven and Technical textiles Industries), the HD’s segment (hygienic disposables, nappies, sanitary napkins, medical/hospital material and moistened tissues) deserves highlighting among the sectors, as it represents 40% of all that is produced and continues with a good level of production. Apart from this, tit contributes to the environment, as it avoids waste and the contamination of water, and economise energy.

In 2007, the apparent consumption of nonwovens and textiles was 160 thousand tons, distributed as follows:
• 40% for Hygienic disposables (34% hygienics – nappies and sanitary napkins / 2% medical hospital material / 4% moistened tissues)
• 60% durables and semi durables (9% shoes / 6% civil construction and geotechnical / 3% filtration / 5% cleaning cloths – kitchen and industrial / 2,5% automotive / 34,5% others (agriculture, packing material, decorations, clothing - carpets, etc.)
